My city is kaluthara🥰
Kalutara is a city located about 40 km south of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. It is also a semi-urban, moderately literate city. This is one of the important spice trading centers and its name is derived from the word Kalu Ganga. In the eleventh century, at the behest of a South Indian prince, the city became a temporary capital. Coconut was previously cultivated in this region and the harvest was used for internal and external trade. The area is also famous for the fortifications built by the Portuguese, Dutch and English for administrative purposes in the past.
The 38 meter long Kalutara Bridge is located near the Kaluganga estuary and is the main link connecting the western and southern borders of the country. It is also the first concrete bridge in Sri Lanka.
Kalutara Bo tree is more than 2320 years old and belongs to the second branch of the Sri Maha Bodhi, the oldest recorded tree in the world. According to the Bodhi Vamsa, the two-fruited Bo-tree resides in the upper courtyard of the Kalutara Bodhi Premises.🙏
